TWO generators were destroyed and a campsite office damaged in a fire at Bickington in the early hours of this morning (Sunday).

Fire crews from Newton Abbot, Ashburton and Buckfastleigh were called to deal with the blaze.

Devon and Somerset Fire and Rescue Service received a call from a member of the public reporting a fire in an office building of a campsite at Bickington just after 12.30am.

A spokesperson for the service reports: ‘Three fire appliances and an aerial ladder platform from Ashburton, Newton Abbott, Buckfastleigh and Torquay were immediately mobilised by Fire Control.

‘On arrival, the Incident Commander confirmed that there was a fire involving the outer cladding of a building, with a cylinder also involved in the fire.

‘The crews got to work using breathing apparatus, a hose reel jet, a covering jet and a thermal imaging camera to extinguish the fire and cool the cylinder.

‘The fire destroyed two generators and affected some of the cladding of the building. The cause of the fire is unknown at this time.’
