POLICE are warning there has been a spike in moped thefts.

Newton Abbot Police have taken to Facebook to warn: ‘There has been an increase in thefts of mopeds within the South Devon area.

‘We advise that moped owners and users are cautious and vigilant, ensuring their bikes are secured to prevent them being targeted.’

They offer some ways to keep your moped safe including:

l Using bike locks, chains and covers.

l Remove the keys – it may sound simple, but it makes it harder to take if there are no keys around!

l Fitting an alarm.

l Property marking, making parts of the bike identifiable.

l Store your bike where possible in a secure part of your property i.e. garage or shed.

l Alternatively, park it in the safest place you can, where CCTV might be available, street lighting or well overlooked.
