TRAFFIC chaos ensued on the A380 this morning after a lorry overturned and its load spilled onto the road.

All three emergency services were called to the eastbound slip road near the garage on Haldon Hill.

The services were alerted at 7.21am with fire engines from Middlemoor, Newton Abbot, Teignmouth and Dawlish in attendance.

A Devon and Somerset Fire and Rescue spokesman said: ‘The fire service received a call reporting a road traffic collision involving a lorry, with the driver still inside the vehicle.

‘On arrival of the first appliance, crews confirmed the driver was now out of the vehicle.’

There were reports of tailbacks of one mile, while one lane of carriageway and the exit slip road to the racecourse were closed.
