FIRE crews from Ashburton and Buckfastleigh helped paramedics recover a young motorist after his car crashed into the central reservation of the A38 over the weekend.

The casualty, in his 20s, could not move after suffering neck and back pains in the accident which happened off the Dean Prior slip road outside Buckfastleigh.

His vehicle collided with a signpost before smashing into the safety barriers just after 10pm last night.

The driver, who has not been named, was treated by paramedics who took him to hospital for a check-up.

Firefighters were called after smoke was seen coming from the damaged vehicle. There was no fire.

No other vehicles were involved in the incident.
