POLICE and fire crews responded to a car arson in Newton Abbot last night. (December 14)

Officers and firefighters were called to Greenaway Road near Coombeshead Academy where a silver Peugeot 206 was deliberately set alight.

The alarm was raised just before 7.30pm.

Two sets of breathing apparatus were worn by firefighters who used a hosereel jet to knock out the flames.

‘The car had been deliberately set on fire,’ a brigade spokesman confirmed.

The vehicle, parked on the street, was a write-off.
