AN ELDERLY man was overcome by smoke in a kitchen fire at his home in Teignmouth over the Easter break.

The casualty was treated for the effects of smoke inhalation after the blaze in Portland Avenue on Good Friday.

A fire crew from the resort answered a 999 call just before 6pm. They arrived to find the fire was out, but the occupant was in need of first aid.

Paramedics also attended the scene to care for the casualty.
