A group of volunteer gardeners and litter pickers in Teignmouth has launched a fundraiser to buy essential equipment to enable its volunteers to continue making improvements to their town.

The Teignmouth Guerilla Gardening Group hopes to raise just over £1000 through a GoFundMe page to pay for essential kit such as Hi-Viz clothing, first aid kits, fire extinguishers and plant soil and waste clearance services.

‘These items and services are essential to the running of the group and legal requirements,’ explained Ben Scott, Dan Comer and Edd Winsborrow who run the Teignmouth Guerilla Gardening Group.

The group has previously spent money from their own pockets and used public donations and small grants to cover the costs, but the spending requires constant investment so they decided to launch a GoFundMe to make it easier for the community and supporters to contribute towards efforts to run and improve the area.

The group, which currently has around 15 regular volunteers, oversees the Alexandra Terrace Community Garden and conducts regular litter picks and gardening and clean ups around the town.

The next planned event will be a joint litter pick with the Alice Cross Community Centre in March. There are further plans for small gardening jobs to take place once the group has adequate health and safety equipment to kit out volunteers.

The group’s main project for 2026 is to focus on the small triangle area near the former Golden Lion on Bitton Park Road. The group intends to cut back overgrown greenery and install a flower bed and bench. It will also continue its project at Teignmouth Railway Station.
