POLICE have renewed their appeal for help from the public after a student from Cornwall died when his BMW crashed in stormy driving conditions on the A38 near Buckfastleigh.

The 22-year-old motorist from Liskeard was pronounced dead at the scene after the accident late on New Year’s Day afternoon. He had suffered head injuries.

No other vehicles were involved in the accident which happened just before 6pm at Dean Prior.

This week police renewed their appeal for information from anyone who may have seen the tragedy on the southbound carriageway.

The green BMW 323i left the Plymouth-bound carriageway and struck a tree. No one else was in the car.

The carriageway remained closed while a forensic examination of the scene was conducted. It reopened at 2am the following day.

Investigating officers from the Serious Collision Investigation Unit are anxious to hear from any possible witnesses. They should contact them on 101 quoting incident reference 955 01/01/16.

Firefighters from Ashburton, Buckfastleigh and Totnes attended the incident where they recovered the man from the car before paramedics took over.
