FIRE crews from Teignmouth were called out to assist after a road traffic collision in the town last night (Friday).

One fire appliance was sent to Eastcliff Car Park on Dawlish Road just after 10.15pm following reports that smoke was issuing from one vehicle after an incident involving two vehicles.

A Devon and Somerset Fire and Rescue spokesman said: “Arriving at the scene the first crew reported that one person was trapped within the vehicle and requested a further appliance, which was swiftly mobilised from Teignmouth."

"WIth two crews on scene the casualty, a 74 year old male, was released by firefighters using hydraulic rescue equipment, a tirfor winch, small tools and a hosereel.”

The casualty was conveyed to hospital by ambulance.
