A police cordon in Teignmouth has been now lifted after a device found on a beach was determined as safe.
Devon and Cornwall Police said a 200 metre cordon was initially put in place in Teignmouth earlier this afternoon (Friday, May 23) and was later reduced to 100 metres after suspected ordnance was discovered on town’s main beach near the pier.
A Royal Navy Explosive Ordnance Disposal Team assessed the object as safe and removed it, the police said.
The force has thanked the local community for its patience and support.
The Maritime and Coastguard Agency said it was made aware of the incident at about 13:05pm today.
