Two friends have admitted taking a workman’s truck and causing more than £11,000 damage when it crashed in Newton Abbot, writes our Crown Court correspondent.
The driver of the Mitsubishi L200 lost his job after Steven Davie and Sam Vaughan took the vehicle last December , causing £11,899 damage.
Davie, 22, of Applegarth Road, and Vaughan, aged 26, of Neville Road, both Newton Abbot, admitted aggravated vehicle taking. Their cases were adjourned for probation reports by Recorder Mr James Waddington at Exeter Crown Court.
James Taghdissian, prosecuting, said the men had entered bases of plea which acknowledged their different roles in the offence.
He said: "Davie admits he was the driver and Vaughan accepts he was the rear seat passenger but knew the vehicle had been taken without consent. Vaughan was part of that, even though he was sat in the rear.
"Davie has a single conviction for drink-driving in 2012 and Vaughan has convictions for drink-driving and no insurance.
"The Crown will be asking the court to consider compensation because the keeper of the vehicle lost his job as a result of this offending."
