A Devon accountancy firm with an office in Bovey Tracey has won an award for its commitment to its employees.

Simpkins Edwards won a Gold Employer of the Year Award for a mid-tier firm at the Accounting Excellence Awards last week.

The award recognises Simpkins Edwards’ people first approach and vibrant workplace culture.

The award judges were impressed by the way Simpkins Edwards backed up its values with data. ‘With staff absence rates at just 0.38% and 14% of our team having been with us for over 25 years, it’s clear that our culture of care and commitment is making a real difference,’ a Simpkins Edwards spokesperson said.

The award also recognised the firm’s dedication to nurturing future talent through its apprenticeship programme, which has been running for 20 years. One of the directors at Simpkins Edwards started as an apprentice 13 years ago and the firm is currently supporting 23 apprentices.

’We have always believed that our strength lies in our people. We have worked hard to create an environment where everyone feels safe, supported and valued. From long-standing apprenticeships to career-long development plans, we’re committed to helping our team grow - professionally and personally,’ the spokesperson commented.

Outside of the office, Simpkins Edwards brings its teams together to support the wider community through volunteering days, hosting its annual Really Big Quiz and taking part in 5k runs.

‘I’m thrilled to see the firm recognised on the national stage by Accounting Excellence,’ said Simpkins Edwards managing partner Mark Simic. ‘We have tried hard to build on our culture as a priority and make ‘people first’ decisions alongside our growth efforts as a firm, with some impressive retention and longevity stats to match.’

Simpkins Edwards has five offices across Devon and employs more than 130 people.
