Teignmouth Airshow is on the hunt for a new volunteer finance director following the resignation of the current incumbent.
David Cook has overseen the finances of Europe’s only volunteer-led, self-funded airshow since it started six years ago.
He had previously been involved in Dawlish Airshow.
However, he has decided to step down to focus on his health, family and business.
‘It has been an absolutely pleasure to get to know some really great people along the way, but now is time for me to put my health, family and business at the forefront of what I do over the next 5 years,’ David said.
‘It has been an absolutely fabulous ride over the past six to seven years and I will continue to stay in touch and help out in the future,’ he added.
‘Sadly, now is the right time for me to hand over the baton to another person that can help take the Airshow forward and make it an even bigger and better event for the local area.’
David will remain in post until a suitable replacement has been found. He also said he would continue to volunteer in a lesser capacity in future airshows.
‘The past six years have taught me a lot about myself and it has also allowed me to show my daughters how you can enjoy yourself and volunteer at the same time and as a family it has helped us thrive,’ David explained.
Teignmouth Airshow organisers paid tribute to the ‘incredible commitment’ David has shown.
‘We’re hugely grateful for everything he’s done to help make the event a success and, while he’s stepping back from the role to focus on family, health and business, we’re pleased he’ll remain involved in other ways,’ a spokesperson said.
‘We rely on the enthusiasm and commitment of volunteers and, with David taking a step down, we are now looking for someone to help us in this area. If you’d like to get involved, please get in touch,’ the spokesperson added.
‘If you are financed minded and would like to volunteer your time to help out with a great event by dealing with the finances, please let a member of the Teignmouth Airshow committee know. The Airshow committee really does need your support.’
The organising committee for Teignmouth Airshow is currently planning the 2026 event after cancelling this year’s show due to difficulties in raising enough money and uncertainty surrounding the construction of a new toilet block on the seafront.
The 2024 Teignmouth Airshow, which was attended by thousands of visitors, cost around £95,000 to put on. The event, which is free to attend, relies entirely on sponsorship and donations.
Fundraising activities that have taken place this year to generate the cash to pay for the 2026 event include a classic car bike and trike show and a summer festival hosted by Lady’s Mile Holiday Park.
