AN ANCIENT ceremony postponed from the summer due to Covid takes place in Ashburton this weekend.

Although normally held in July the Ale Tasting and Bread Weighing, organised by Ashburton Court Leet, take place this Saturday afternoon (October 16).

A procession of the porteeve and his bailiff, accompanied by other court marshalls, constables along with invited town dignitaries all dressed in medieval costumes, will set off from St Lawrence Lane in the town at 2pm to call at each pub and bakery to ensure the produce is up to scratch.
