THE long-awaited Teign Estuary cycle-pedestrian route appears to have been scrapped – a victim of the £60 million county council cuts.
The £10 million trail from Newton Abbot to Teignmouth was promised more than a decade ago, and would have brought a massive economic boost to Teignmouth, Bishopsteignton and Shaldon.
Its abandonment – ironically a week before a stage of the Tour of Britain comes to Teignbridge – was greeted with shock and outrage.
Some of the blame is being heaped on two landowners at Bishopsteignton, including Cllr Trevor Davey, chairman of the parish council, who refused to allow the preferred route across their fields, delaying the project.
