TEIGNMOUTH'S deputy mayor has demanded an apology from a fellow councillor over comments made about his role in the long running, acrimonious Bitton Park tree felling saga.
Eyebrows were raised and questions asked by some when nearly £7,000 was paid out by the town council after a large oak tree partly collapsed on a cadet hut in the winter.
There were heated slanging matches at several council meetings over who had given the authority for the outlay.
Deputy mayor Cllr Dave Matthews was mentioned as being involved, but he vehemently denied he had anything to do with instructing local tree surgeons to move in.
