UNDER the hammer – and for a good cause. Wielding the auctioneer’s mallet at The Cove in Teignmouth is Trevor Head who, with a gang of generous bidders, helped raise nearly £3,000 to help recovering hit-and-run victim Jason Bunce, from Kingsteignton.

The Teignmouth-based trawlerman is slowly recovering from extensive head injuries he received after being struck by a car which did not stop in Kingsteignton’s Gestridge Road in the early hours of April 8.

Altogether the auction crowd raised £2,720 at Sunday’s sale. An additional £3,000 has been collected from appeal websites to help 25-year-old Jason and his young family.

Jason’s dad, Steve, has been overwhelmed by the generosity and support of everyone since the accident which is still being probed by police.

He revealed that officers are anxious to trace the driver of a silver Lupo who may have witnessed the hit and run incident or a dark car at the scene which is still being sought by investigators.
