Police in Buckfastleigh and Ashburton have said they are 'extremely concerned' and asked the public in the area to be extra vigilant after a violent fight and spate of attacks on cars and property. Officers and ambulance staff were called to Bridge Street, Buckfastleigh, between 11pm and 11.30pm on Friday after receiving several reports of a scuffle involving six men and a woman opposite The Sun Inn. The fight followed an argument between two local men who had knocked past each other in the street. A 61-year-old was kicked and punched to the ground resulting in injuries to his face and head.He was taken to Torbay Hospital, where he also received treatment for injuries to his arms. An 18-year-old man from the town was arrested at the fight scene and bailed to appear at Torquay Police Station on October 20. PC Davina Joiner, of Ashburton Police, said: 'It was a loud incident, women were heard screaming. Someone must have heard or seen something.' Early on Saturday, police were called to an unrelated incident in which a red Renault Clio parked at the Dartmoor Lodge, Ashburton, had its windows smashed with bricks and its bodywork scratched and dented. Another car parked nearby was also damaged. Ten minutes later police were called to Dial Motors, Buckfastleigh, where nine vehicles had been attacked and their windows smashed. The total value of the damage is estimated at £2,500. A nearby telephone box also had five of its windows broken and the former Natwest Bank, Fore Street, lost two large windows at an estimated cost of £500.
