RESEARCHERS have been digging deep into Moretonhampstead’s links with the infamous murderer William De Tracy.

De Tracey, lord of the manor in the town and landowner, killed Archbishop Thomas Becket in his cathedral in Canterbury in 1170.

And the town’s history society have been looking at the local associations with him and the significant impact the murder in the cathedral had on the manor.

After churning up lots of information a talk entitled Who Murdered Becket? will be given in the parish hall in Fore Street on Monday.
