Gwen Jones, of Teignmouth, writes:
It was refeshing to read some commonsense from Graham White on the subject of the proposed fishing ban from Shaldon Bridge.
Generations of local people and visitors have fished from Shaldon Bridge and it is disheartening to hear that a minority wish to see this practice made illegal.
Imagine what message this will send to the tourists on whom we have come to depend.
I have lived in Teignmouth for 35 years and have never seen reports of car crashes caused by people fishing.
If this is true, then let those who made such a claim substantiate it with times, dates and other details.
Like Mr White, I have never fished, and have used Shaldon Bridge safely on thousands of occasions by foot, motorcycle and car.
It is more than likely that any councillor at county, district or town level who supports such an ill-conceived measure will not be able to count on my vote at a future election.
Wake up councillors and try to deal with the issues that affect us all.
One final thought. Will the ban include youngsters fishing with crab lines?
