Paul Jenkins, of Odlehill Grove, Abbotskerswell, writes:

I notice that the government has disbursed even more money for rural broadband. I am wondering what happened to the last lot of money as it doesn't seem to have benefited our area.

Isn't it about time that our local MP took her government and BT to task about the terrible service locally despite all the millions of pounds spent?

I have challenged BT in the past about the lamentable download speeds and that I suspected our line was being capped. They assured me that it certainly was not being capped.

It is not possible to check this on a BT Home hub but it is possible on a BT Business hub if you know what you are looking for and, surprise, surprise it transpires that the line is being capped.

This is, no doubt, designed to frustrate customers with low speeds so pushing up demand for Infinity when it becomes available – at increased cost, of course, despite them getting money to introduce the service in the first place!

Why am I raging about this now? I shall explain: my son is on a short break to Scotland involving a trip on Scotrail's West Highland line (of Harry Potter fame). He has just sent me a picture of the download speed he is enjoying on a train in the middle of nowhere, which is ten times that available in Abbotskerswell.

It's about time Anne Marie, who never tires of banging on about rural broadband, challenged BT about their inertia.MORE LETTERS IN OUR DIGITAL EDITION
