A MUCH missed youth club in west Teignmouth has opened again.

The old Kingsway Youth Club closed with the demise of the Teignmouth Community Association last year but now, after a lot of hard work a new one is up and running at the Meadow Centre.

The Kingsway Residents' Association and Westbank, which operates the Meadow Centre, secured funding last month to re-employ Karen Ryding as youth worker to work alongside Sarah Holmes, the community development officer.

A name for the new club is still to be decided, but it is open to all young people in the Teignmouth area on Thursdays for 11- to 18-year-olds from 7.30pm to 9.30pm, and Fridays for eight to 12-year-olds, from 7pm to 8.30pm. There is an entry fee of 50p.

Ms Holmes said: 'It was really wonderful to see the young people enjoying the activities – they were all happy to be back.

'We also plan to introduce a homework club together with other activities within the next few weeks.'

Town and district councillor David Cox added: 'The first night was buzzing, and it is a great testament to the hard work of the Meadow Centre team.

'I was delighted to be able to find the funding for the homework club, which should start soon.'
