PLANS to build nine holiday cottages at Ipplepen’s Dornafield Camping and Caravan site have been brought to a halt by Teignbridge planners.

The committee refused the application because the proposed cottages would be too close to the Grade II* listed farm house, and concerns were expressed about it harming its special character.

Cllr Ann Jones, who sent her comments to the committee, could not see how it would affect the listed building.

But that was not the view of other councillors, and the application was turned down.

The plans were refused by 10 councillors, with three for the application and one abstaining.

A spokesman for the campsite said: ‘Naturally we are disappointed but due process has been seen to be done in an open and public manner and a decision made.

‘It will not stop us providing our usual award-winning service to our customers and hopefully being a credit to the district.’
