Cider drinkers and producers were hit hard in Alistair Darling's 2010 budget, announced last week.

The Chancellor introduced a ten per cent above inflation duty on the alcoholic drink from midnight last Sunday.

The rise will have an overwhelming impact on Ye Olde Cider Bar, Newton Abbot, according to its landlord.

The bar opened at the turn of the century and is one of only four cider houses in the country.
