DO you have royal inclinations? If so, help could be at hand as Dawlish Carnival Committee is on the lookout for a queen, princess and attendant to become the royal family for 2004.

The committee is looking for young people who can commit themselves to act for the town on the carnival float at more than 20 carnivals, most on a Saturday, between May and November. You will also be fully involved in helping to design the float, selecting and styling your costumes and choreographing your own dance routine.

Representing the town at events across the county, the privilege of being part of carnival royalty will see you fully attending all events. You may also be called upon to attend other important functions in the town during your time of service and must be available in carnival week in August.

To be selected as carnival royalty you need to live in the town or surrounding villages and must attend the carnival selection disco on Friday, February 27, at the Manor House in Dawlish

The carnival queen has to be more than 14 years old; princesses have to be 12 or 13 and attendants between nine and 11 years of age. You must be accompanied by your parents or bring written permission from them to enter, and it must confirm your availability for the year. Judging with other entrants will take place on the night and the queen will be crowned on May 13. Reserves, for attending carnivals in the event of illness, will also be chosen.

Parents, friends and anyone wishing to watch the judging are welcome to attend. Entry costs £1.50 per person.
