PUBLIC access to the Teignmouth 'cop shop' opened by the chief constable in a fanfare of publicity less than a year ago will probably soon be restricted.

The hours and days when people could walk in from the street with an enquiry have always been limited, but huge cuts in the police budget mean the doors are likely to be closed in future.

Ironically it comes as the new £1million 'police station' on the old Mount Everest site at the community college is nearing completion. It will be the base for officers serving the Teignmouth-Dawlish area, but without any public access.
