The Local Government Ombudsman has found Teignbridge Council guilty of maladministration after residents of a Teignmouth housing development were left with a six-figure bill to complete roadworks and landscaping which should have been carried out by the developer, writes Nigel Canham.
There could be little hope, however, of the public purse picking up the entire tab with homeowners still expected to shoulder at least part of the cost.
People living in Fair Oaks, off Exeter Road, were told they could have to find up to £8,000 each to get the jobs done privately.
