THE future of Kingsway Meadow Centre, Teignmouth, still hangs in the balance.

Owned by Teignbridge Council, the existence of the community centre, in the most deprived area of the district, was thrown into jeopardy in August when the organisation which had been running it pulled out.

Now almost £900 worth of utility bills are stacking up and plans for its future are still uncertain.

Teignmouth town council agreed as a short term emergency measure to help Kingsway Residents' Association run the centre on a 12-month lease with a three- month 'get out' clause.

That first three months expires on October 31 but councillors are adamant they will not take on responsibility for the centre in the long term.
