A FLOOD prevention grant – worth as much as £40,000 – is being given to Buckfastleigh in the wake of the drenching the town took six months ago.

The town made headline news across the UK as it mopped up after the deluge in November.

Even Prime Minister David Cameron ventured out of Downing Street to visit devastated areas and local flood victims.

News of the government's financial hand-out – courtesy of Defra's Flood Resilience Community Pathfinder Project – was greeted enthusiastically by town councillors at their monthly meeting.
