TEIGNBRIDGE District Council has started work on developing its new Active Wellbeing Strategy, which will shape the future delivery of sport, leisure and physical activity facilities and services across Teignbridge.
The Active Wellbeing Strategy will define the role of the Council and its partners in supporting residents to become and stay more active across Teignbridge.
It will establish a shared vision and clear goals for partners including schools, sports clubs, and community groups linking with health and other public services.
The overarching aim is to help more people to be more active, more often, so that everyone living, working, or visiting Teignbridge can enjoy the benefits of improved long-term physical and mental wellbeing.
The Strategy’s scope will be broad including coastal areas, parks and open spaces, active travel, sports pitches and community venues as well as the Council’s leisure facilities and outreach services.
It will seek to develop a collaborative partnership across the public, voluntary, sports, education and health sectors.
It will support residents and visitors to move more and enjoy the outdoor informal and formal sporting, leisure and active wellbeing opportunities Teignbridge has to offer.
The Council has appointed SLC, a specialist consultancy, to provide expert support and guidance in developing the Active Wellbeing Strategy.
SLC will support a programme of surveys and stakeholder engagement and work alongside the Council and its partners over the coming months to identify the priorities for the new Active Wellbeing Strategy.
A spokesperson for the council said: ‘We want residents, community groups, sports clubs, employers and schools to play a key part in shaping the future of sport, physical activity and active wellbeing in the district, and have launched a public consultation to gather your views.
‘We want to understand better what will support Teignbridge residents to be more active and what the future priorities should be to achieve this.
