A 34-YEAR-OLD man who threatened a group of teenagers with a knife at Newton Abbot railway station has been jailed for 28 months today.
Jake Truman was heavily intoxicated when he approached the group asking for a Rizla paper in June.
They could not understand what he said and he swore at them before one of the group made a ‘cheeky’ comment about his blue coat making him look like a blueberry and he pulled out the DIY knife.
Truro Crown Court heard he threatened to stab them, kill them and slash their faces and the incident was caught on CCTV.
The group fled but homeless Truman threatened one of them, raising the knife up leaving him ‘shocked, scared and overwhelmed’ that it might happen again.
Truman has 32 previous convictions for 54 offences including robberies and violence.
The court heard he was homeless and had the knife because he was living in a tent and had been abused by young people at the station before.
Truman, who suffers with psychosis, spat over a police officer called to the scene and tried to kick a second officer.
He admitted making threats with a bladed article and assaulting an emergency worker and was jailed for a total of 28 months.
Judge James Adkin said Truman was jailed for six years in 2012 for robberies, was a three strike burglar, had previous convictions for violence and on the day of the incident in June this year was on bail for two warrants and due to be sentenced for other offences including shoplifting.
