Jersey’s most famous detective could be paying Teignmouth a visit next week when the crew of ‘Bergerac’ arrives in the Teignbridge resort for filming.
Blacklight Productions will set up camp in Northumberland Place and Somerset Place on Wednesday (August 6) and filming is due to be completed by Thursday (August 7).
Filming for the second series of the reimagined Bergerac began last week and the six-part series is due to be screened on U and U&Drama in 2026.
The second series will see Jim Bergerac, played by Damien Molony, start to put his life back together and begins dating. He meets Nicola, played by Camilla Beeput, but before the relationship has a chance to blossom, he is pulled back into his next case. ‘The groom at a wedding reception on the island of Jersey is found murdered in his hotel room, the wedding party comes under intense suspicion and scrutiny. Jim will have to decipher the victim’s cryptic last words from his speech if he is ever going to bring the killer to justice,’ explained a spokesperson from UKTV. ‘When Jim starts to unravel old secrets, more skeletons come to light, making this his most intricate case yet,’ the spokesperson adds.
The first series of the reimagined ‘Bergerac’, which launched earlier this year, was watched by an average of 2.4 million viewers across its six episode run.
‘Bergerac’ originally ran for nine series on the BBC between 1981 and 1991 and starred John Nettles as Jim Bergerac. The modern reimagining honours the iconic detective drama but delivers a contemporary twist. Unlike the original hit from the 80s, the new series sees one character-led murder mystery run across all six episodes, in place of a new storyline each episode.
Teignmouth is no stranger to the silver screen. It was the main location for the 2018 film, The Mercy, which started Colin Firth and Rachel Weisz.
