TEIGNMOUTH may have escaped lightly from the violent weekend storm that devastated large chunks of the UK.

There was no serious flooding from the sea or torrential rain, and little damage from the gale force winds.

But the huge waves that battered the shoreline, were a huge attraction for locals and day trippers, who flocked to the seafront area to watch the spectacular rollers unleash their awesome power onto the beach and against the pier, and the sea wall, which luckily stood up to the hammering.

A few hardy and brave souls got up very close to the breakers to snap the raw power of nature, and some surfers actually relished the conditions.

Teignmouth Post columnist John Silverman was out and about with his camera to record the spectacle and the crowds.<
