A PEACE POLE will be erected in Dawlish tomorrow as part of events to mark the United Nations International Day of Peace.

The evening’s events start at 5pm at the Strand Centre.

The focus is on a gathering, ahead of the day itself on Sunday, for an inspiring evening of peace and community.

There will be a buffets, stalls, music, speakers and a film.

A spokesman said: ‘It will include the planting of Dawlish’s Peace Pole, a symbol of our shared hope for a better, more connected world.’

The event will feature a keynote speaker from Christian Aid as well as spotlight talks from local and global peace projects.

Mayor of Dawlish Cllr Anthony James will also give a talk and there will be a screening of a film of peace.

The International Day of Peace (“Peace Day”) is observed around the world each year on September 21.

Established in 1981 by unanimous United Nations resolution, Peace Day provides a globally shared date for all humanity to commit to peace above all differences and to contribute to building a Culture of Peace.
