VOLUNTEERS in Dawlish have been braving the weather conditions.

Members of WADE Waterways Around Dawlish Environment were out checking on rainfall and the water level on the Brook last night and this morning.

A spokesman said: ‘Our team of volunteers did a great job last night - opening and clearing debris from the weir gates.

‘At the worst point last night the water was just over the footpath.

‘Some interesting developments include the virtual disappearance of the island upstream under Jubilee Bridge and the fact debris is still being caught in the gates.

'The water is too fast at present to be able to clear them.’
