AN action group could be set up to try to save a Teignmouth day care centre from threatened closure.

Beechcroft is one of many homes across Devon that could be sacrificed by the county council, which has to save £10 million from its budget.

A packed meeting at the home on Tuesday heard from social service managers that they were looking to close 75 per cent of their centres, keeping just nine open. The matter is still out for consultation.

David Lamboll, whose father attends the centre, praised the high quality care he received there, and added: 'We do not want to lose it. Beechcroft provides just what my dad needs'.
