LONG-serving reporter John Balment was delighted after Teignbridge councillors thanked him for all his hard work and dedication over the past 27 years.

At Tuesday’s executive meeting, the leader of the council, Cllr Jeremy Christophers, wished Mr Balment all the best in his retirement and expressed his gratitude for all he has done in covering council meetings.

Mr Balment was overwhelmed at the leader’s kind words and he, too, thanked Cllr Christophers and the rest of the council for their help.

However, he did not miss the chance to criticise the council for being too political, but nonetheless, said he enjoyed his time covering meetings.

Mr Balment, who is a horse racing fanatic, is retiring after more than 50 years in journalism.
