tonnage through Teignmouth docks has slumped yet again, as the recession continues to bite.
And harbour bosses are concerned that more export clay from the Bovey Basin is being shipped through Plymouth.
They warn there are a number of challenges in supporting the port – owned by British Associated Ports – and maintaining its viability, despite efforts to seek alternative revenues, and efficiencies.
The cargo handled in the last financial year was down to 365 kilotonnes, a drop of 60kt compared with last year.
