Kingsteignton's crime figures are down and the village has a new police officer to help keep things that way. PC Jon Aggett, a Kingsteignton resident and officer of nine year's standing, has joined PC Matt Harkin on the beat just as the latest annual statistics revealed an overall drop in recorded crime of 21.3 per cent. The biggest drop was in domestic burglary, which showed a fall of 55.2 per cent, closely followed by assaults which dropped by 42.7 per cent and other burglaries, down by 42.5 per cent. Drug crimes are down 35.5 per cent and thefts of and from vehicles has fallen by 15.8 per cent. PC Harkin told parish councillors at their annual meeting on Wednesday that the figures, which compared 'very favourably' with the Teignbridge average, were 'something we're quite proud of'. He said more information from the public would help reduce crime further still and was given a list of priorities by councillors that included speeding traffic and drivers ignoring the Fore Street one-way system. Introducing himself, PC Aggett said Kingsteignton was 'dear to my heart' and pledged to work hard to tackle crime. 'I'm not going to pull punches, I'm going to work to the best of my abilities,' he said.
