CADETS in Newton Abbot had a VIP guest to open their £350,000 building.

The Duke of Kent officially opened the building in Wharf Road which will be used jointly by air and army cadets for training, parades and lectures.

The Ministry of Defence has funded the premises, which were needed after the previous headquarters were considered no longer suitable.

Wing Cdr Brian Wills-Pope, chairman of the Devon joint cadet committee and wing commander responsible for the Devon Air Cadets, explained: 'It's a brand new building, paid for by the MoD, which is very generous.
