THE NEWTS – Newton Abbot & District musical Comedy Society’s junior section – are all set to perform their annual Christmas concert at Abbotsbury Church.
In normal times the children, aged eight to 17, would perform to a packed out audience, but sadly due to the current pandemic restrictions this could not happen this year.
Claire Holden, pictured right, NADMCS committee member and director of NEWTS, said: ‘So instead, with the support of Waggle Events, we will be filming our Christmas variety concert and creating a DVD recording for all the children’s parents.
‘We then had an idea, the children wanted to spread some happiness into the local community, and thought it would be lovely to reach out to our local care homes to see if we could deliver a copy of our Christmas variety concert and a hamper of ‘goodies’ to them.
‘The offer was snapped up, many so happy that we could bring some Christmas entertainment and cheer to them, as their normal Christmas entertainment had to be cancelled and many residents were missing visits from family.
‘The children’s families and Asda have kindly donated food for our hampers and we are looking forward to delivering these on Wednesday, December 22.
‘It really feels wonderful to give something back into our community, using the power of “the arts” to lift spirits and bring some cheer this Christmas.’
