With the All Whites in front of their home crowd for the last time this season, the stage was set for a sublime performance. But within ten minutes they found themselves 6-0 down, courtesy of two Ben Lovell penalties.
More importantly, the All Whites got on the wrong side of referee Neal Woodhead, who penalised them several times before the All Whites got into sync with him.
In the end it all came right – well it would when you are clearly the top side in or around the Bay! There is only one side who have clearly dominated in the area and that is the All Whites, with no fewer than nine wins this season over their near neighbours Torquay, Brixham and Paignton.
Soon after finding themselves 6-0 down the home side put together a well taken try by Jason Keenan, the first of a brace for him, this pegging the score back to 6-5 to the visitors.
Within five minutes it was 8-6 to the All Whites, this time Mr Woodhead penalising Brixham and giving Mike Saxton a simple penalty chance. With the All Whites now starting to show their dominance, Saxton slotted another penalty before the break to make the score 11-6 at half-time.
The home side, under the stewardship of forwards coach Trevor Harris and manager Keith MacLean, steamed into Brixham in the second half. Keenan soon grabbed a second try following a fine run by Jan Viskoper, then Alex Moore, returning after a shoulder injury, got in on the action before Neil Johns rounded off the rout, his try converted by Simon Mabin.
Brixham went home with a consolation try scored by Nathan Dallow five minutes from time, converted by the metronomic Ben Lovell.
The game was a useful work-out before the All Whites head up to the M4 corridor and a date with Reading RFC tomorrow.
It has been a quite wonderful season for the All Whites. Should they progress tomorrow and make it to National League 3 South West, it will be one great achievement for this little club, no longer the minnows but a very accomplished rugby side.
The players and the management look forward to seeing as many supporters as possible up at Reading – your support will be greatly appreciated.
