A teenager from Buckfastleigh has won an award for his part in the town's wool and leather festival. Adam Clark, 17 at the time of the festival, was nominated for a Heritage Star Award by the festival committee for his work on a film about the festival, called Buckfastleigh – A Town on Tenterhooks. The Heritage Star Award scheme is run by the Local Heritage Initiative to reward those who have made a special contribution to a Local Heritage Initiative project. He won first prize in the south west region for his age group. Adam travelled to London to receive his prize at the Tower of London with his parents Lesley and Kelvin who represented the festival committee. He was presented with a cheque for £150 and a further £400 was given to the festival committee. As part of the prize, he also gets to name his own star, which he has yet to do. ' I did have a few nerves as I waited to be presented with my award, but the day was brilliant, one that I don't think I'll ever forget.' Festival organiser Sandra Coleman said: 'We are all absolutely delighted. We wanted the festival to bring a lasting benefit to local people, especially young people. We hope this award will inspire Adam to continue.' Adam worked with IT expert Tim Stacey, professional filmmaker Yasmin Krull and a group of local volunteers to produce the film. 'The team was brilliant to work with,' said Adam. 'People were always ready to help each other out. We were kept very busy during the festival week. My roles included filming, interviewing, still photography and sound recording. I even did my own editing. 'I was really pleased with the finished film. I think our teamwork created a well-structured film that I hope will be enjoyed by people of all ages for years to come.' Having recently completed Year 13 at KEVICC, Totnes, he is waiting for his A-level results, which are out later this month. He has ambitions to be a filmmaker. 'I am very keen to have a career in the media, hopefully something creative. I am currently applying to do a media arts degree at the University of Plymouth and am hoping to stay in Buckfastleigh while I study.'
