PANTO this Christmas may be on hold, but fear not, for a theatre company are ensuring that a feast of festive fun will be heading to a car park in Teignbridge.

The Birmingham Stage Company, one of the world’s leading producers of theatre for children and families, is taking to the road and their drive-in show Horrible Christmas will be pulling into Exeter Racecourse on December 18.

Promising a celebration of Christmas in the most wonderful, funny and moving way you’ll ever see, the show offers a unique take on the great British tradition.

The BSC’s Actor/Manager Neal Foster said: ‘Although not strictly speaking a panto, Horrible Christmas is going to be the next best thing.

‘The show will enable families across to enter into the festive spirit in a safe, socially distanced manner, from the comfort of their own sleigh (car)!

‘It’s the perfect story for families this winter as one young boy battles to save Christmas for the world’

When Christmas comes under threat from a jolly man dressed in red, it’s up to one young boy to save the day – but can he save Christmas? From Victorian villains to Medieval monks, Puritan parties to Tudor treats, the show will take audiences on a hair-raising adventure through the history of Christmas in the company of Charles Dickens, Oliver Cromwell, King Henry VIII and St Nicholas as they all join forces to save the festive season.

Continued Neal:’ The production takes place off the back of a large truck with a full stage set-up and there’s a big screen to ensure everyone can see. All the sound will be picked up on car radios and we’re hoping for interaction with people using their car horns and flashing headlights.’

There will be two performances at Exeter Racecourse on December 18, one at 4.30pm and later 7pm showing. Perfomances last just over an hour. Tickets can be booked from the website www.carparkparty.com.
