FIRE damaged a Dawlish chip shop yesterday evening, Friday.

Crews from Dawlish, Teignmouth, Danes Castle and Middlemoor were called in at around 5pm to deal with the fire in the chip shop's cooking range.

A Fire Control spokesperson said: 'Crews used four breathing apparatus, one hose reel jet and two dry powder extinguishers. Crews also requested assistance from a fourth appliance.

'The fire was extinguished, and crews confirmed the cause as accidental. The fire was found to have started in the electrical fan box.

'Crews used an additional hose reel jet, thermal imaging camera, gas detector and two positive pressure fans. The chip shop was moderately damaged.'

Middlemoor Fire Station reports: 'The incident involved a fryer within a commercial fish and chip shop.

'The incident commander detailed crews to enter the building using breathing apparatus, a wet chemical extinguisher, dry powder extinguishers, a hose reel jet and thermal imaging cameras to locate and extinguish the fire.

'The fire was located quickly within ducting and had spread to other combustible materials within the shop, once crews had extinguished the fire they ventilated the property using a positive pressure ventilation fan and removed the ceiling tiles to ensure no fire spread.

'The adjacent property was also checked over to ensure no further spread and was found to be clear.

'The building was then handed over to the business owner. For any advice on business safety please see the link below. https://www.dsfire.gov.uk/safety
