The Environment Agency has issued a flood alert along south Devon coastal and estuary areas for the next couple of days due to high tides and forecast heavy rain.

Flooding is possible for two hours either side of high tide from this afternoon until Friday evening with areas at risk including Teignmouth and the Teign estuary and Dawlish.

Residents are being advised to avoid beaches and coastal promenades that may be flooded.

‘Coastal conditions should ease for Friday’s high tide,’ an Environment Agency spokesperson said.

High tide in the Teignmouth approaches is at 5.16pm today with a forecast high tide level of 4.65 metres. However, strong force 6 southerly winds and increased offshore wave heights are forecast over the high tide period.
