TEIGNMOUTH will be flying a flag for Commonwealth Day tomorrow.

It will be raised at 10am in The Triangle to celebrate the event, now in its third year.

Deputy mayor Cllr Paul Burgess will read a message from the Rt Hon Patricia Scotland QC, Secretary-General of the Commonwealth Nations.

This will be followed by the reading of the Commonwealth Affirmation by Rosa-May Bown, who will be representing the youth of the town.

She is one of the young people who will be embarking on an adventure of a lifetime sailing on the Jolie Brise historic yacht to Portugal in April.

Bruno Peek, the originator and Commonwealth pageantmaster, of  Fly a Flag for the Commonwealth, said: ‘I am amazed how quickly this event has caught the public imagination in the UK and around the Commonwealth.

‘It is a positive and uplifting way for people to link with and assist fellow citizens of the Commonwealth in a family that spans oceans and continents. There is a real sense of promise, and hope for the future in this current troubled world of ours.’
