The family of a motorcyclist who was killed in a road traffic collision on Telegraph Hill last month have launched a fundraiser to repair his bike so it can lead his funeral procession.

Nicholas Davey was pronounced deceased at the scene after he was involved in a collision with a pushbike on the A380 Telegraph Hill near Kennford on June 10.

He had retired just two weeks earlier from his role as a laundry porter at Taunton’s Musgrove Park hospital and had been on his way to visit friends in Torquay when the tragic incident occurred.

His family hope to raise £1,000 to repair the Harley Davidson he was riding, which was his pride and joy, so his son Ashley Davey can ride it to head up the funeral procession next Friday (July 11).

Nicholas, known as Elvy because of his love of rock and roll and, in particular, Elvis Presley, ‘lived and breathed bikes and his Harley was his pride and joy’, said daughter-in-law Samie Janaway.

‘As a way to honour his memory, we want to give him the send-off he truly deserves by having his Harley lead the way at his funeral,’ Samie said. ‘Unfortunately, the bike needs some repairs before that can happen and we simply can’t afford the costs on our own right now.’

Having grown up on the back of his dad’s bike, Ashley plans to commemorate his father by doing most of the repairs himself. Damage includes the bike’s saddle bags, tank, mirrors lights and hydraulic clutch cable.

The bike then needs an MOT before it can be ridden in the funeral procession.

The family are expecting around 100 bikers to join the calvacade.
