THIS photo by a Teignmouth student of her gran 'having fun with some silly glasses', has been picked for a major London exhibition.
Ruby Kirby's shot is on display with other pictures which seek to tackle negative stereotypes of older people.
Her gran is called Poppy, and Ruby, 15, said: 'Poppy by name, and Poppy by nature – a vibrant character who has been known for her shock of black hair for 83 years.
'The photo celebrates old age, as it shows that the older generation still has an appetite for fun. Poppy was willing to wear a contemporary pair of geek glasses without any hesitation, and enjoyed doing it.'
The Age Snapped exhibition at the London College of Communications exhibition, celebrates the opportunities, achievements and aspirations of older people, and plays an integral part in a campaign to highlight yesterday's older people day.
Ruby, of Dawlish Road and who attends Teignmouth Community College, was encouraged by her tutor, Ellie Howard, to enter the photo, which was taken as part of her GCSE work, and was one of a series of people wearing the same glasses.
Ruby attended a reception for the exhibition with her family, and is delighted at being picked.
Ms Howard added: 'The picture recognises her talent and creativity with photography.
'We are sure she will gain significantly from this experience, as this is a high-profile exhibition where the work of all 40 student exhibitors will gain national exposure.'
Angela Eagle, the minister of state for pensions, said: 'The Age Snapped exhibition challenges people's perceptions of age by giving us a different view of older people.
'The images give us an insight into the powerful and important roles older people are playing within families, communities and the economy across the country.'
