A reader from Newton Abbot writes:

In response to the letter in last Friday's edition regards troublemakers in Courtenay Street, I think it would be a good idea, as suggested by the writer, to build a skate park to replace the paved, empty space outside Asda.

To watch the kids perform their skill and stunts would be a massive draw for the public.

These skateboarders and BMXers are part of our community, and the future adults of Newton Abbot. It is lovely to see them out and about, having fun.

They are not vandalising, they do not use foul language, they are not drunk and vomiting on the paving area and, from what I see, they seem vey nice youngsters, and even the benches are still intact.

And on a final note, to the residents of the flats, they knew when they purchased these properties that they face Asda car park and a 24-hour supermarket, that they were above a main road and that they were near the Ship pub with its music and drinking licence. It will, in short, not be on a quiet resdential street!
